Two Isothermal Continuous Stirred-Tank Reactors with a Recycle Stream
Consider two isothermal continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTRs) with a recycle stream on which a first-order reaction is occurring. The governing equations of the system are

This Demonstration plots the exit concentration (t) for various values of the inlet and recycle flow rates, the reactor's volume, and the rate constant. If , one recovers the case where there is no recycling. The conversion obtained from the reactor system decreases as the recycle flow rate increases. In addition, the response of the system is more rapid for higher recycle flow rates. Finally, the set-up shows the value of the exit concentration at various times.
