The Journey of Speke and Grant
The Journey of Speke and Grant
The explorers James Augustus Grant and John Hanning Speke left the east coast of Africa near Bagamoyo on October 2, 1860; both were ill when they reached Kazeh (Tabora). On July 28, 1862, Speke saw the Nile flowing out of Lake Victoria and discovered the Ripon Falls. The expedition then proceeded down the Nile (not always seeing the river) to Gondokoro in Southern Sudan, where it met Samuel Baker and his wife in February 1863.
