The dark gray region above is known as an arbelos because of its resemblance to a knife used by shoemakers in antiquity. Regardless of the placement of the central notch (which can be controlled with the slider), the length of the blue arc is
π/2
. The two light gray circles inscribed in each half of the arbelos (called Archimedes' circles) have equal radii.
