Simulation of Pythagorean Cup
Simulation of Pythagorean Cup
In order to keep his students from drinking too much wine, Pythagoras is said to have constructed what is known as a Pythagorean cup. The fluid in the wine glass behaves normally unless its level reaches the bend of the U-shaped tube. When this happens, the U-shaped tube becomes a siphon and, in accordance with Pascal's law of communicating vessels, the entire contents of the cup is then emptied.
