This very simple Demonstration is intended for its usefulness to instructors and students in elementary statistics to replace the use of random number tables.
In survey sampling, a simple random sample of size
n
from a population of size
N
is a random subset such that each element is a distinct member of the population and every subset of size
n
occurs with probability
-1
N

. Sometimes the term "sampling without replacement" is used.
This Demonstration can be used in applications such as survey sampling and randomization in comparative experimental designs, including factorial, randomized block, and matched pairs.
