Pressure
Pressure is defined as the force exerted over an area. If the same force is applied over a smaller area, the pressure is greater; if smaller force is applied over the same area, the pressure is smaller.
In this Demonstration the area is 1 .Moving the subdivisions slider, you can see that a force of one newton exerted over 1 (a pascal) can be thought of as a force of 1/4 of a newton exerted over 1/4 of the original area; or 1/9 of the original force over 1/9 of the original area, and so on.
