Performance of CSTR and Plug Flow Reactors versus Temperature
Performance of CSTR and Plug Flow Reactors versus Temperature
Consider a reversible first-order reaction, , taking place in either a CSTR (continuous stirred tank reactor) or a plug flow reactor.
A⇌B
This Demonstration shows the equilibrium conversion, the conversion for the CSTR, and the conversion for the plug flow reactor versus temperature in blue, red, and green, respectively. You can set the value of the parameter , where is the residence time of the reactor. For large values of τ (with D-values approaching unity), both the green and red curves approach the equilibrium conversion curve, as expected. One also observes that for all values of temperature and residence time, the performance of the plug flow reactor is superior to that of the CSTR.
