WOLFRAM|DEMONSTRATIONS PROJECT

Optimal Volleyball Spikes and Blocks

type of block
standard block
off-center block
late block
time
Given a standard block, the optimal place to hit the ball would be off the blocker's fingers, using a technique called a 'wipe', where the ball goes out of the court but touches the blocker, giving the point to the spiker.
Given different volleyball blocks, where is the optimal place to hit the ball? This Demonstration shows three different blocks: standard, off-center and late. The Demonstration then gives the strategy for the best volleyball spike.
