Spheres are placed on a larger sphere, and copies of this assembly are placed on a larger sphere again, forming the beginning of a fractal structure. This arrangement is similar to the morphology of lotus leaves that are remarkably self-cleaning due to the surface roughness produced by bumps on bumps. You can vary the size and radial distances of the spheres to study the geometry of molecules or viruses, or to produce ornamental images.
