Galileo Spaceflight
Galileo Spaceflight
This Demonstration shows an animation of the flight of the Galileo spacecraft's mission to Jupiter. This spacecraft used a technique called gravitational assist three times—once with Venus on February 10, 1990 and twice with the Earth on December 08, 1990 and on December 08, 1992. The spacecraft made flybys past two asteroids: (951) Gaspra on October 29, 1991 and (243) Ida on August 28, 1993.
The orbits of the planets have the following colors: Mercury: orange, Venus: brown, Earth: blue, Mars: red, Jupiter: brown. The two asteroids have these colors: Gaspra: pink, Ida: cyan.
