Fugacity as a Driving Force for Mass Transfer
Fugacity as a Driving Force for Mass Transfer
Two 1-liter flasks contain liquid water at different temperatures: the left flask with dissolved salt and the right flask with pure water. You can control the temperature of the left flask and the amount of salt added with sliders. Select the reset button and then select play ("go to equilibrium") to enable the system to attain equilibrium by transferring water from one flask to the other until the fugacities are equal. For some conditions, all of the water in the left flask is transferred to the right flask, leaving solid salt behind. You can show the water fugacities by checking "show fugacities."
