Diffusion in Solids
Diffusion in Solids
The mole percentage of a solute in a semi-infinite solid block is calculated as a function of distance from the surface. Carbon and copper are considered as the diffusing species. Compare the diffusion of the three systems by checking the boxes: carbon into a block of iron ("C into Fe"), copper into aluminum ("Cu into Al"), and copper into nickel ("Cu into Ni"). Use the sliders to vary the temperature of the block, the mole percentage of the diffusing species, and the diffusion time.
