Deconvolution of a Chromatogram

A simple method for deconvolution of a chromatogram is given. Consider four chemical species to be separated by gas chromatography, with retention times equal to 1.2, 1.9, 2.8, and 4.2 minutes. Assume that the response profile of each species is Gaussian. This Demonstration plots random responses of the gas chromatograph (i.e., chromatograms for various mixtures of the four components) showing overlap of their peaks. It then performs a deconvolution in order to identify the four separate peaks. You can set the random seed to vary the shape of the response.
