The Christmas flower, also known as nochebuena or poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima), is a popular flower used at Christmas. It was introduced into the United States from Mexico by Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico in 1825. Its indigenous name is the Nahuatl word "cuetlaxochitl", meaning "leather flower".
