WOLFRAM NOTEBOOK

Navigating the Private Cloud Client

The HTML-and-JavaScript-based front end of Wolfram Enterprise Private Cloud (EPC) is designed to run on any modern browser (including support for Internet Explorer 11 and Edge). For best results, however, the latest versions of Safari, Chrome or Firefox are recommended. Mobile access to EPC is possible, but not officially supported.

Notebook Interface

The browser-based development environment is designed to replicate the experience of the Mathematica desktop product, i.e. a series of input, output and plain-text cells, bracketed in a logical hierarchy. As on the desktop, this interface includes dynamic code completion suggestions while you type:
It also includes the Suggestions Bar for further exploration ideas:
All changes made in the notebook interface automatically update the server-side notebook model. The notebook file is thus saved without a deliberate action from the user.

File Header Menu

The contents of the menu bar are designed to mimic many of the functions of the desktop Mathematica application. In addition, some items in the menu bar contain cloud-specific user actions.

Sidebars

On the right side of the screen, the user can call forth a variety of sidebars. The most important of these are the Documentation sidebar, the file explorer, the formatting palette and the Insert sidebar. All sidebars can be open at once, but only the last-used one will be visible at any given time. Other “open” sidebars will appear as the current sidebar is closed or minimized.
  • The Documentation sidebar is visible by default whenever a notebook file is opened. It is designed to emulate the desktop reference guide, as well as the web-based reference pages. Once closed, the sidebar can be reopened by clicking the book icon in the application header of the page (see the following image).
  • The file explorer sidebar provides a hierarchical view of cloud objects and folders, either as icon tiles or in lists. For any file, a number of actions can be taken via a “gear menu,” including viewing details, moving the file, sorting and deleting. To open the file explorer, click the folder icon in the application header:
  • The Format sidebar provides styling, font and other formatting options for individual cells. It is accessed through the header menu:
  • The Special Characters sidebar is for inserting icons, international characters and mathematical symbols into cells. It is accessed via the Insert menu:
  • File Manager View

The file manager sidebar can be expanded into a full-page view. This is recommended for more extensive file operations, such as moving a lot of files, reorganizing folders, etc. To access the full file manager view, click the expander icon or visit the /browse endpoint:
The file manager does not include all files associated with a given user account; it only includes cloud objects. When you create a file on disk by Export or Put, such a file is not a cloud object and therefore cannot be found or manipulated in the file manager.

    Usage Dashboard

The usage dashboard can be found at the /dashboard endpoint or accessed from the Account & Settings menu. It contains high-level information about scheduled tasks, instant APIs and other automated or deployed events associated with the current EPC:
In the left-hand navigation menu, you can browse task objects by category. Note that clicking any shortened URL in the Name column will navigate to a representation of the given object:
  • For deployed objects such as forms, the link leads to the form itself
  • For automated tasks, the link leads to a log file associated with the task
  • In the case of APIs, the JSON representation of the API is linked, as illustrated here:
