Interrupted Sinusoidal Map Projection
Interrupted Sinusoidal Map Projection
Interrupted world maps cut the surface of the globe into a number of gores along the equator and apply a projection to each part separately. This shows less deformation for each gore than would occur for the whole map. However, gaps in the map are created in parts away from the equator.
In this Demonstration, the gores are flattened using sinusoidal projection. You can change the number of gores from 1 to 12 or shift the map to make the gaps fall in less interesting areas.
