A slider-crank mechanism can be used to convert rotary motion into linear motion or vice-versa.
In this Demonstration, the constant angular speed of a crank is converted into the variable linear speed of a sliding block, forced to stay on a straight line. Changing the length of the connecting rod or the offset of the slider path generates different speed and acceleration profiles for the slider.
