Today, a porcelain cube art piece by Ai Wei Wei went on display. It was smashed by another artist, and now it’s in the news. Since Ai Wei Wei often makes art from smashed objects, I imagine the cube will return in some form.

In[]:=
motifV=
;motifH=
;
In[]:=
cube=GatherBy[Select[Tuples[Tuples[{0,1},{3}],{2}],EuclideanDistance@@#==1&],Abs[#[[1]]-#[[2]]]&];
In[]:=
Graphics3D[{Texture[motifV],Tube[#,.07]&/@cube[[1]],Texture[motifH],Tube[#,.07]&/@Join[cube[[2]],cube[[3]]]},Boxed->False]
Out[]=
Mmm... not too bad, but I’m sure others can do better.
