A star polygon connects every
th
q
vertex of a regular
p
-gon. The number
q
is called the density of the star polygon, and we need only consider
q<p/2
to generate all distinct star polygons that can be made from a regular
p
-gon. If
p
and
q
are not relatively prime, the resulting star polygon is called improper and can be "factored" into two sub-polygons.
