Year, Cutoff, Number of Seats
New Zealand uses an MMP (mixed member proportional) system to determine the number of seats given to parties. The calculation is based on the Sainte-Laguë allocation formula, with a cutoff of 5% and coattailing. This Demonstration examines varying values for the cutoff, as well as the presence or absence of coattailing (an electorate win means the party is no longer subject to the cutoff) on the results of the 2002-2008 general elections.
